Kimberly & Kanyah's LOVE STORY:

Kanyah and I met in college, it was my freshman year and her senior year. The actual story of how we met depends on which one of us you ask. According to Kanyah, she can remember exactly what I was wearing and how I looked. I apparently flew in like a hurricane to one of her study sessions looking like an absolute goddess and she immediately had to know who I was but I breezed right back out of the library before she got the chance. I have no memory of this first meeting.

I remember us meeting because we were both taking Ancient Greek as our language elective. She was in a much more advanced class than me, but for extra credit we both had to go to this Greek festival and we ended up carpooling with a mutual friend.

Which ever story is the most accurate, basically from there I just started crashing her study nights with our mutual friend and doing everything I could to make her laugh. I wasn’t actually out at this point. I had realized that I was probably bisexual, but it was something I was still struggling with since I grew up really religious.

Overtime our friendship basically became a relationship and she was spending almost every single night in my dorm room (just as friends), we were going to parties together, going out to eat together, going to movies, and she pulled me from my depression and eating disorder. Eventually she helped me come to terms with my sexuality and supported me as I came out to my family. Finally after all that we decided to make an attempt at a relationship. We became inseparable from that point on.

Our love story got a little bit rough when I had to leave college for financial reasons and we ended up being long distance for about a year. It was very hard but it also brought us a lot closer and made us realize what we wanted out of life. I moved to Missouri for her and the rest is history.

We still spend 24/7 together and she still gives me butterflies. Through the 9 years we’ve been together we’ve helped each other get through past traumas, grow into better humans, and find out who we are as individuals. There’s no one else I’d rather spend my life with. I’m indigenous and Mexican. Kanyah is white.

Q1: Tell us about your wedding! What was the inspiration behind your day? Did you have a specific theme, style or color palette? Did you incorporate any cultural or religious traditions in any part of your day? We decided to stay very simple in our styling of this couple! We used Black, White and a hint of Blue in their outfits and decor. We started with a handfasting ceremony inside the beautiful Belvoir Winery room and enjoyed the vintage lamps & furniture and hallways. Our Reception table was held inside what you call the Library room on the back side. Kimberly wore a fantastic crown which is totally in line with personality!

Q2: Let's talk wedding decor. How did you decorate your space for the ceremony and the reception? Was any part of the decor DIY?

We let the decor of the Belvoir Winery be the biggest statement piece of this elopement! But, for the sweetheart table we had a house wine and used our handfasting cords to decorate the table afterwards. The bouquet also became a part of our tablescape. The blue fabrics adorned the large round table where we could sit and cool off after our loving photo session outside!

Q3: What were the florals like in your wedding? Did you use flowers in any of your design elements like the bridal bouquets, centerpieces or ceremony backdrop? Did they play an important part in the overall style of your wedding?

We used artificial flowers in the event that day so we could take it all home with us and use it as decor in our own home. It is a reminder of our forever love!

Q5: Let's talk fashion. How did you both choose your wedding day look? Describe the looks in detail.

Kimberly was head to toe smashing in black with a 2-piece outfit shirt and large tulle skirt combination. The crown as a statement piece as well as the two-toned gorgeous hair! Kanyah had a simple pant/shirt combination with suspenders and a splash of blue in the bowtie and handkerchief.
